The Animated History of Tibet

For this project, I was asked to animate the myth sequences for a historical animated series on YouTube.

First, we agreed on a storyboard, then moved into producing the animation. I was given a voiceover to work with for the storyboard and some cultural reference material. Here are the approved storyboards for episode 1 & 2:

The project manager/creator of the series (Alexander Smith) was very specific about what type of visuals he wanted to include. He asked for fluid animation with a textural backdrop, and brush stroke-like line work.

After he approved the storyboards above, I then animated the final sequences:

The launch of the series was very successful, the first episode has over 70K views.

For the New Year, our team gathered in New York City. We screened the first two episodes of the Animated History of Tibet for the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University and at Tibet House NYC. There was a lot of enthusiasm and great questions from art lovers, historians, students, and academic faculty. It was an awesome way to wrap up the production!

We want to thank Dr. Lauran Hartley and Professor Gray Tuttle for the kind invitation.
